Cartilage surgeries

Cartilage surgeries are procedures used to repair or restore damaged or diseased cartilage in joints. Common cartilage surgeries include:

1. Cartilage repair: Stimulates cartilage growth using microfracture, drilling, or abrasion arthroplasty.
2. Cartilage transplantation: Transfers healthy cartilage from one area to another.
3. Osteochondral autograft transfer (OATS): Transfers healthy cartilage and bone from one area to another.
4. Autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI): Uses a patient's own cartilage cells to grow new cartilage.
5. Matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI): Uses a scaffold to support cartilage cell growth.
6. Cartilage regeneration: Uses stem cells or growth factors to stimulate cartilage growth.
7. Debridement: Removes damaged cartilage and smooths the joint surface.
8. Chondroplasty: Repairs or reshapes damaged cartilage.
9. Osteochondral allograft transplantation: Transfers healthy cartilage and bone from a donor.

These surgeries are used to treat various cartilage-related conditions, including:

1. Osteoarthritis
2. Cartilage defects or lesions
3. Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD)
4. Patellofemoral pain syndrome
5. Chondromalacia patella

Surgical approaches may vary depending on the joint affected, the extent of cartilage damage, and individual patient needs. Consult an orthopedic surgeon to determine the best course of treatment.
