Achilles Tendon Rupture:

A sudden and severe injury where the Achilles tendon, connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone, tears or ruptures.

Causes:

1. Sudden contraction or stretching
2. Overuse or repetitive strain
3. Weak or degenerated tendon
4. Trauma or direct blow
5. Sports injuries (e.g., soccer, basketball)

Symptoms:

1. Sudden, severe pain
2. Snapping or popping sound
3. Swelling and bruising
4. Difficulty walking or standing
5. Weakness or inability to push off the ground

Treatment:

1. Conservative:
    - Immobilization in a cast or boot
    - Pain management
    - Physical therapy
2. Surgical:
    - Repair or reattachment of the tendon
    - Reinforcement with grafts or implants

Recovery:

1. Conservative: 6-12 months
2. Surgical: 6-9 months

Risks and Complications:

1. Re-rupture
2. Infection
3. Nerve or blood vessel damage
4. Chronic pain or stiffness
5. Limited ankle mobility
