Contact dermatitis

Contact dermatitis is a skin reaction that occurs when you come into contact with an allergen or irritant, causing inflammation, redness, and itching.

Types:

1. Allergic contact dermatitis (e.g., poison ivy, latex)
2. Irritant contact dermatitis (e.g., soaps, detergents)
3. Photocontact dermatitis (e.g., sunlight, certain chemicals)

Symptoms:

1. Redness and inflammation
2. Itching, burning, or stinging
3. Blisters or rashes
4. Dryness or cracking
5. Swelling or warmth

Treatment:

1. Avoid further exposure to the allergen or irritant
2. Topical corticosteroids or creams
3. Cool compresses or wet dressings
4. Oral antihistamines for itching
5. Antibiotics if infected

Prevention:

1. Identify and avoid allergens or irritants
2. Wear protective clothing or gloves
3. Use gentle skin care products
4. Patch testing for allergies
5. Avoid scratching or rubbing affected areas
