Contusions

Contusions, also known as bruises, are a type of injury that occurs when blood vessels are damaged, causing blood to leak into the surrounding tissue.

Causes:

1. Blows or trauma to the skin
2. Falls or accidents
3. Sports injuries
4. Surgical procedures
5. Blood disorders (e.g., hemophilia)

Symptoms:

1. Pain or tenderness
2. Swelling or inflammation
3. Discoloration (blue, purple, or black)
4. Limited mobility or stiffness
5. Redness or warmth

Treatment:

1. Rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE)
2. Pain relief medication
3. Cold compresses or ice packs
4. Elevation to reduce swelling
5. Monitoring for infection or complications

Prevention:

1. Wear protective gear during sports or activities
2. Avoid falls or accidents
3. Practice safe lifting techniques
4. Manage blood disorders or bleeding conditions
5. Avoid smoking to promote healing
