forearm fracture

A forearm fracture refers to a break in one or both of the bones in the forearm, which are the radius and ulna.

Types of forearm fractures:

1. Radius fracture: break in the radius bone
2. Ulna fracture: break in the ulna bone
3. Both-bone fracture: breaks in both radius and ulna bones
4. Monteggia fracture: break in the ulna bone with dislocation of the radius bone
5. Galeazzi fracture: break in the radius bone with dislocation of the ulna bone

Causes:

1. Trauma (falls, accidents, sports)
2. Direct blow to the forearm
3. Twisting or bending injuries

Symptoms:

1. Pain
2. Swelling
3. Bruising
4. Deformity
5. Limited mobility

Treatment:

1. Immobilization (cast or splint)
2. Pain management
3. Reduction (aligning bone fragments)
4. Surgery (internal fixation, plates, screws)
5. Rehabilitation (physical therapy)

Complications:

1. Malunion (improper healing)
2. Nonunion (failure to heal)
3. Infection
4. Nerve or blood vessel damage
5. Limited forearm rotation or mobility
