Acetabular (Hip) Labral Tear

Acetabular (Hip) Labral Tear:

A tear in the labrum, the cartilage ring surrounding the hip socket (acetabulum), causing pain, stiffness, and limited mobility.

Causes:

1. Trauma or direct blow
2. Repetitive motion or overuse
3. Hip dysplasia or structural abnormalities
4. Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)
5. Degenerative changes or wear and tear

Symptoms:

1. Pain in the groin, hip, or buttock
2. Stiffness or limited hip mobility
3. Clicking, snapping, or locking sensation
4. Instability or feeling of the hip giving way
5. Pain when pivoting, twisting, or squatting

Grades:

1. Mild (Grade 1): small tear
2. Moderate (Grade 2): medium-sized tear
3. Severe (Grade 3): large tear or complete detachment

Treatment:

1. Conservative:
    - Physical therapy
    - Pain management
    - Activity modification
    - Orthotics or shoe modifications
2. Surgical:
    - Labral repair or removal
    - Correction of underlying conditions (e.g., FAI)

Recovery:

1. Conservative: 6-12 weeks
2. Surgical: 3-6 months
